Be the Change You Want

Be the Change You Want

We’re now a few days into 2017 and you may have firm goals or resolutions in mind.

Maybe you’ve just been thinking of making some changes to your lifestyle. People or media are definitely telling you what kind of changes you should make and to just to it.

Change your diet – eat healthier.

Get active – exercise more.

Meditate – practice mindfulness.

Work-life balance.

Get that persistent back pain checked out.

It goes on.

A resolution is a firm decision “to do or not do something.”

Like quitting smoking cold turkey, or joining a gym and going 5 days a week.

How likely is this to be successful on the first go?

Weeks?

Months?

Sure, some people succeed with their healthy changes while others fail miserably.

Why is this?

For those that fail, they likely had someone in their ear telling them they needed to change. But they didn’t necessarily want to change OR appreciate how change would benefit them.

If you have read any of my previous blogs you may have noticed a theme present throughout – when it comes to making any behaviour change, you must first realise a change is needed and most importantly, YOU must WANT that change.

And the thing is, this takes TIME.

So, if you’ve only just started to think about what you should do in the last couple weeks because it’s that time of year, you may not have contemplated or prepared enough for your change.

What do you want to change?

Think about your goals.

Aim for a desired result.

Where do you see yourself in 12 months? What are the steps you will need to take to get you there? Write them down.

More than one goal? Prioritise them for success.

Make a plan. Want your change. Get help when you need it.

Good luck! And Happy New Year!
