Sports Physiotherapy at RedoHealth

Get Back to the Sport and Activity You Love

Sports physiotherapy at RedoHealth is designed to help you recover from injury, understand why the problem occurred and build the strength and confidence needed to return to your sport.

Whether you’re dealing with a recent injury, a recurring problem that keeps interrupting your training, or you’re trying to return to sport following surgery or a period away, our approach goes beyond simply treating the painful area.

We look at how your whole body moves, the demands of your sport and the factors that may be contributing to your injury, before developing an individual rehabilitation plan to help you get back to doing what you love.

Our Approach to Sports Physiotherapy

The first step is developing a clear understanding of what has happened and why.

Your physiotherapist will take a detailed history of your injury, training and sporting goals before assessing the injured area and how you move more broadly.

Where appropriate, we will also review scans, medical reports and previous injuries.

  • The cause is usually either over-use / training or poor technique
  • Previous injuries also important in the Connect Therapy framework

Where you feel pain isn’t always the whole story.

At RedoHealth, we take a whole-body approach to assessment. We look at how different areas of the body work together and whether mobility, strength, control, previous injuries or movement patterns elsewhere may be contributing to the problem.

The goal isn’t simply to settle the current injury. We want to understand why it developed and what needs to change to reduce the likelihood of it returning.

Early rehabilitation may involve a combination of hands-on treatment, movement, education and targeted exercises.

The initial goal is to help you move more comfortably and confidently while maintaining as much appropriate activity as possible.

Rather than simply telling you to stop your sport, we’ll help you understand what you can safely continue doing and how your training may need to be modified while you recover.

  • Soft tissue massage to reduce swelling
  • Soft tissue release for tightness
  • Regaining full range of movement
  • Stretches
  • Functional advice, gait education
  • Commence strengthening weak or inhibited muscles
  • Taping
  • Joint mobilisations
  • Mobilisations with Movement

Getting out of pain isn’t necessarily the end of rehabilitation.

As symptoms improve, treatment progresses towards rebuilding the strength, mobility and physical capacity required for your particular sport.

Your rehabilitation program may include:

  • Strength training
  • Mobility work
  • Balance and control
  • Plyometrics
  • Running or change-of-direction drills
  • Sport-specific exercises
  • Gradual increases in training load

At RedoHealth, our physiotherapists can also work alongside our Exercise Physiologist where additional strength and conditioning support would benefit your recovery.

  • Back to full strength or stronger than pre-injury to prevent it happening again, plyometrics

Sports Injuries We Treat

We work with recreational and competitive athletes across a wide range of sports and activities.

Some of the common presentations we see include:

  • Running injuries
  • Knee pain and injuries
  • Ankle and foot injuries
  • Achilles and other tendon problems
  • Hamstring and calf injuries
  • Hip and groin pain
  • Shoulder injuries
  • Back and neck pain related to sport
  • Muscle strains and joint sprains
  • Tendinopathy and overuse injuries
  • Post-operative rehabilitation
  • Recurring injuries that haven’t fully resolved
  • Tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow with Achilles / tendons line
  • Pelvic / Sacro-iliac pain

Returning to Sport

Returning to sport involves more than simply waiting until the pain disappears.

We progressively prepare you for the actual demands of your activity.

Depending on your sport, this might involve running, jumping, landing, accelerating, changing direction, lifting or gradually rebuilding training volume.

The aim is to give you the confidence that your body is ready—not just to return to sport, but to stay there.

Recurring Sports Injuries

If the same injury keeps coming back, there is often more to investigate.

Previous injuries, changes in training load, strength deficits, mobility restrictions, recovery, technique and movement strategies can all influence how much load different parts of the body experience.

Rather than repeatedly treating the symptoms, we look for the factors that may be contributing to the recurrence and develop a longer-term strategy to address them.

Why Choose RedoHealth for Sports Physiotherapy?

Experienced Physiotherapists

Our experienced physiotherapists assess the injury in the context of the individual—not simply the diagnosis.

Longer Appointments

Our longer appointment model gives us time to properly understand your injury, sporting demands and goals and develop an individual plan.

Whole-Body Approach

We don’t just focus on where it hurts. We look at how your whole body moves and identify factors that may be contributing to the problem.

From Injury to Performance

Our goal isn’t simply to get you out of pain. We help you progress through rehabilitation, strength and a graded return to the activities and sports that matter to you.

Physiotherapy + Exercise Physiology

Where appropriate, your physiotherapist can work alongside our Exercise Physiologist to bridge the gap between rehabilitation, strength and longer-term sporting performance.

Sports Physiotherapy FAQs

In many cases, no. Your physiotherapist can assess your injury and determine whether further investigation or referral to a sports physician or other medical practitioner may be appropriate.

Not necessarily. Wherever appropriate, we aim to keep you active while modifying the activities or training loads that may aggravate your injury.

Return-to-sport timeframes depend on the injury and the demands of your sport. Rather than relying solely on time or pain levels, rehabilitation should progressively restore the strength, movement and physical capacity required for your activity.

Yes. Recurring injuries are an important reason to look beyond the painful area and consider strength, mobility, movement, training load and previous injuries that may be contributing to the problem.

The number of sessions you may need will depend on your concerns and goals. Whether you’re recovering from an injury sustained during pregnancy, dealing with urinary incontinence, or experiencing pain due to prolapse, our team will regularly review your progress and keep you informed along the way.

No. Sports physiotherapy is just as relevant to recreational athletes and active people who simply want to run, play sport, train or exercise without being repeatedly limited by injury.
