Osteoarthritis Workshop: Clinical Exercise and Considerations for Joint Health

Workshop with Melinda Luck

Date: Tuesday July 6th

Time: 9.30AM - 10:30AM

Investment: $40

  • Is Osteoarthritis simply a disease of wear and tear?

  • Do positive findings on X-Rays and scans correlate with physical signs and symptoms?

  • Does pain equal damage?

The answers to these questions and more will be explored in our new Osteoarthritis workshop coming up in the next term break.

Winter is a perfect time to delve into the health of our joints. Not only can we feel stiffer in our joints and tighter in our muscles with the cold weather but as we rug up and retreat indoors our joints can become more symptomatic due to less movement and exercise.

We are made for movement and no surprises that our joints are particularly so!

The articular cartilage which lines the bones of all our moving joints and provides the shock absorption and free movement we take for granted, doesn’t have a blood supply. It relies on movement including compression and decompression that occurs with loading our joints for its nutrient supply. It does this through movement of joint or synovial fluid over and through its surfaces.

There are many misconceptions, myths and beliefs about pain, damage and what is safe and not safe to do with Osteoarthritis. Movement and exercise are not only safe to do but are the foundations for keeping our joints strong, healthy and resilient.

If you or anyone you know has arthritis of the hips and/or knees and/or hands and are keen to learn about the latest research into Osteoarthritis and what you can do about it, then this one-hour session is perfect. A combination of talking and exercise, you will go away with a clear idea of what you need to be doing to help build and maintain your joints.
